OPEN CALL TO DISSIDENT ARTISTS
Show your artwork during the Dissident Art exhibition!
Is your work deemed politically charged, confrontational or edgy?
This is your time to shine!
In today’s highly charged
political, economic, corporate and environmental climate, it’s
natural that there exist a variety of viewpoints on the world
and its future – yet you’d be hard pressed to get
a sense of that from the Montreal art system. The volunteer founding
committee of Art + Anarchy was created in 2007 in an effort to
change that, to develop a yearly artistic event that would promote
creators who crave change, propose fresh perspectives, tackle
issues and use their art as their tool of expression, whether
it be about issues of gender equality, cultural policy, world
politics, environmental strategies or animal rights.
After a greatly successful first
edition in May 2007, which welcomed over 1,500 viewers in a single
week to a loft space in Park Extension, temporarily transformed
into a hub of revolutionary thought, we’re planning our
second edition, Dissident Art, which will run September 5-28,
2008. The exhibition aims once again at filling a void, and giving
activist artists a space to be heard. In that spirit, a portion
of the exhibition space will be open to anyone who wants to exhibit
a work of art exploring today’s crucial issues.
